00:00:42:17 - 00:00:47:16
Welcome to another episode of the Style
and Strategy podcast.
00:00:47:16 - 00:00:50:20
I hope you've been enjoying the episodes
to date.
00:00:50:20 - 00:00:51:10
And if you have, let me know because I
don't know if you are or not.
00:00:51:10 - 00:00:52:15
And if you have, let me know because I
don't know if you are or not.
00:00:52:15 - 00:00:56:15
And if you have, let me know because I
don't know if you are or not.
00:00:56:15 - 00:00:56:18
It would be wonderful if you want to leave
me a review or even just drop me a note
00:00:56:18 - 00:01:00:23
It would be wonderful if you want to leave
me a review or even just drop me a note
00:01:00:23 - 00:01:07:10
and let me know what is resonating for you
so I can provide more content around the
00:01:07:10 - 00:01:09:22
things that are important to you.
00:01:10:00 - 00:01:17:08
Anyway, today I wanted to touch on I had a
bit of an email conversation with a
00:01:17:08 - 00:01:23:00
potential client this week and I thought
it was a really good topic to chat to you
00:01:23:00 - 00:01:25:12
around in the podcast.
00:01:25:16 - 00:01:30:08
And so the potential client that I was
chatting to actually said, and this is
00:01:30:08 - 00:01:31:03
And so the potential client that I was
chatting to actually said, and this is
00:01:31:03 - 00:01:36:08
verbatim, you know, the trouble I have is
that I have a whole cupboard of clothes.
00:01:36:08 - 00:01:42:03
that I never get to wear anymore because I
just don't leave the house as much.
00:01:42:03 - 00:01:46:22
Working from home means I don't get
dressed up anymore.
00:01:47:07 - 00:01:55:19
And I read this and I felt really, really
sad because what has happened, especially
00:01:55:19 - 00:02:00:20
post -COVID, is we've obviously, we've got
back this slight balance in this work life
00:02:00:20 - 00:02:04:00
post -COVID, is we've obviously, we've got
back this slight balance in this work life
00:02:04:00 - 00:02:04:15
or...
00:02:04:15 - 00:02:10:08
you know, home life balance in our lives,
which has been really fantastic.
00:02:10:08 - 00:02:13:13
However, what has then played out, and
again, this is just my perspective that I
00:02:13:13 - 00:02:16:02
However, what has then played out, and
again, this is just my perspective that I
00:02:16:02 - 00:02:23:06
have seen, is that we've then gone, well,
I'm not gonna see anyone, I'm not gonna be
00:02:23:06 - 00:02:30:04
doing anything, so I might as well just
stay in my leggings or maybe my PJs down
00:02:30:04 - 00:02:30:17
the bottom.
00:02:30:19 - 00:02:34:17
you know, if I've got to do some meetings
or maybe I'm not even doing meetings, so
00:02:34:17 - 00:02:39:02
I'm just behind the desk and I might be
popping out to the shops, etc.
00:02:39:02 - 00:02:43:02
And, you know, for a little while, this is
OK.
00:02:43:02 - 00:02:46:04
And I think many of us experience this
through.
00:02:46:04 - 00:02:48:04
COVID at the time, right?
00:02:48:04 - 00:02:53:01
We got really excited living in our active
wear sort of all day long.
00:02:53:01 - 00:02:54:18
And it is easier, right?
00:02:54:18 - 00:02:59:11
Because you get up, you go might go for a
walk or walk the dog, go for an exercise,
00:02:59:11 - 00:03:04:05
head down to the local cafe, you know,
and, and athleisure wear has been become
00:03:04:05 - 00:03:08:19
such a critical part of our day to day.
00:03:08:19 - 00:03:14:23
However, what this has also done for many
of us is where you aren't.
00:03:14:23 - 00:03:16:05
doing that shift.
00:03:16:05 - 00:03:21:07
Yes, you've got a whole wardrobe of
clothes that are sitting there that aren't
00:03:21:07 - 00:03:22:17
getting used anymore.
00:03:22:17 - 00:03:25:03
So we need to address that issue.
00:03:25:03 - 00:03:26:03
So we need to address that issue.
00:03:26:03 - 00:03:32:02
However, at the same time, what we don't
realize is from a mental perspective, that
00:03:32:02 - 00:03:34:10
However, at the same time, what we don't
realize is from a mental perspective, that
00:03:34:10 - 00:03:39:21
actually, you know, there is psychological
studies that have been done on this to
00:03:39:21 - 00:03:43:17
actually show that from a mindset side,
00:03:43:22 - 00:03:45:10
There's a level of sort of that dopamine
hit that comes through when you get
00:03:45:10 - 00:03:47:17
There's a level of sort of that dopamine
hit that comes through when you get
00:03:47:17 - 00:03:48:00
There's a level of sort of that dopamine
hit that comes through when you get
00:03:48:00 - 00:03:49:14
There's a level of sort of that dopamine
hit that comes through when you get
00:03:49:14 - 00:03:54:12
dressed, you feel like you've got
motivation to go do something or there's
00:03:54:12 - 00:04:00:04
that shift in your day that that slowly
slides away.
00:04:00:04 - 00:04:06:07
Now, the key point that I do want to call
out because there is a misconception here
00:04:06:07 - 00:04:07:06
that...
00:04:07:06 - 00:04:12:10
getting dressed for work always means
means you've got to get dressed up really,
00:04:12:10 - 00:04:15:10
you know, corporate or professional or
things like that.
00:04:15:10 - 00:04:21:06
I'm certainly not, you know, there'll be
certain industries where that may apply,
00:04:21:06 - 00:04:26:22
but actually, it's just looking to go,
well, can I get dressed in a way that
00:04:26:22 - 00:04:32:14
makes me feel ready for work or ready for
the event that I'm doing something and
00:04:32:14 - 00:04:35:10
gives me a bit more of a purpose.
00:04:35:10 - 00:04:41:18
or dress for the event and or activity
that you are actually going to do.
00:04:41:18 - 00:04:50:02
So here's why a couple of reasons why
dressing up casually for, you know, remote
00:04:50:02 - 00:04:50:17
work.
00:04:50:17 - 00:04:51:17
matters.
00:04:51:19 - 00:04:56:23
So as I said, it can actually help to
boost your productivity and mindset.
00:04:56:23 - 00:05:03:12
Even if you're going from your leggings
to, you know, leggings or PJs to a casual
00:05:03:12 - 00:05:07:16
dress can actually enhance that
productivity by setting that mental
00:05:07:16 - 00:05:12:12
boundary between relaxation and now I'm
ready to do some work.
00:05:12:12 - 00:05:17:11
So even that third space in between of,
you know, having that shower,
00:05:17:11 - 00:05:22:23
getting yourself set up for the day can
help mentally prepare you for that.
00:05:22:23 - 00:05:25:19
So you start to do that transition.
00:05:25:19 - 00:05:28:21
Two, it helps just push your confidence
level.
00:05:28:21 - 00:05:35:05
So if you opt for, let's say, a casual yet
put together outfit, it can still help
00:05:35:05 - 00:05:37:10
with that transition and boost confidence.
00:05:37:10 - 00:05:40:08
Because when you feel good about how you
look,
00:05:40:08 - 00:05:44:13
It can then reflect in your work and your
interactions, you know, even if it is
00:05:44:13 - 00:05:49:17
being done virtually, or you're maybe you
are just heading down to the shops for a
00:05:49:17 - 00:05:50:14
coffee pickup as such, because when you
get dressed, it's not about getting
00:05:50:14 - 00:05:53:17
coffee pickup as such, because when you
get dressed, it's not about getting
00:05:53:17 - 00:05:59:21
dressed for other people, you're doing it
for yourself.
00:05:59:21 - 00:06:05:14
You know, and then also it's about, well,
what is your personal brand?
00:06:05:14 - 00:06:12:05
And you know that I talk about this a fair
amount, but what is the image that you
00:06:12:05 - 00:06:13:01
want to portray?
00:06:13:01 - 00:06:15:11
What's important to you?
00:06:15:11 - 00:06:20:21
And so ensuring that your clean messaging
and that consistent, you know, look and
00:06:20:21 - 00:06:26:06
feel, et cetera, is all balanced together
with what it is that you're trying to
00:06:26:06 - 00:06:29:20
demonstrate, whether that is virtually or
face -to -face.
00:06:29:20 - 00:06:33:22
And then also think about the fact that it
can actually support
00:06:33:22 - 00:06:36:06
routine and structure.
00:06:36:06 - 00:06:42:20
So getting dressed as if you were going to
maybe into the office, even if that means
00:06:42:20 - 00:06:48:18
smart casual, helps to maintain a bit of a
routine for you.
00:06:48:18 - 00:06:52:09
And sometimes that structure can be really
critical for those who maybe struggle with
00:06:52:09 - 00:06:53:14
And sometimes that structure can be really
critical for those who maybe struggle with
00:06:53:14 - 00:06:56:02
the flexibility of remote working.
00:06:56:02 - 00:06:59:03
And it can provide, you know, a sense of
00:06:59:03 - 00:06:59:08
And it can provide, you know, a sense of
00:06:59:12 - 00:07:05:16
a normal day and that structure around
discipline, especially where you find that
00:07:05:16 - 00:07:06:21
you might need a bit of structure around
your day.
00:07:06:21 - 00:07:10:12
you might need a bit of structure around
your day.
00:07:10:12 - 00:07:15:13
So what are some of the things that you
could potentially consider if you are
00:07:15:13 - 00:07:17:09
working from home to help you get on this
track?
00:07:17:09 - 00:07:20:04
working from home to help you get on this
track?
00:07:20:04 - 00:07:22:16
So one could be, you know, sitting.
00:07:22:16 - 00:07:24:23
What is your casual dress code?
00:07:24:23 - 00:07:26:06
for at home.
00:07:26:06 - 00:07:31:07
What does casual mean to you that it
actually makes you feel great?
00:07:31:07 - 00:07:35:23
You know, it could be a nice smart top, a
pair of jeans, comfortable trousers.
00:07:36:00 - 00:07:38:16
It could be, you know, a nice shirt.
00:07:38:16 - 00:07:41:04
It could still be in your slippers and
your runners.
00:07:41:04 - 00:07:45:19
But you know, what is that going to look
like for you?
00:07:45:19 - 00:07:49:17
You might want to think about planning
your outfits.
00:07:49:17 - 00:07:55:14
So just as you might prepare for a week in
the office, you know, plan your remote
00:07:55:14 - 00:07:55:22
outfits.
00:07:55:22 - 00:07:56:20
What have you got on?
00:07:56:20 - 00:08:02:13
What are you planning to work on over
those few days that you're sitting down at
00:08:02:13 - 00:08:04:13
your work from home desk?
00:08:04:13 - 00:08:09:09
You know, maybe you've structured your
week in a way that, you know, a particular
00:08:09:09 - 00:08:15:14
day is this is the day that I'm going to
do all video calls or this is the day that
00:08:15:14 - 00:08:18:22
actually it's all project based work and
I'm actually just going to be behind the
00:08:18:22 - 00:08:19:03
out.
00:08:19:03 - 00:08:20:09
the laptop.
00:08:20:09 - 00:08:23:17
So you know, what does that look like?
00:08:23:17 - 00:08:28:15
And then, you know, finally, it's about
looking at the versatility of your
00:08:28:15 - 00:08:29:01
wardrobe.
00:08:29:01 - 00:08:35:02
So have a look at those pieces that you've
got in that wardrobe that aren't serving
00:08:35:02 - 00:08:36:14
you anymore.
00:08:36:14 - 00:08:42:20
Can you one, think about can I start to
incorporate this with some casual pieces
00:08:42:20 - 00:08:43:15
or not?
00:08:43:15 - 00:08:44:10
Or
00:08:44:10 - 00:08:47:15
Can I wear these in different ways?
00:08:47:15 - 00:08:49:09
So for example, you might have, you know,
you might've had a lot of blouses or
00:08:49:09 - 00:08:51:04
So for example, you might have, you know,
you might've had a lot of blouses or
00:08:51:04 - 00:08:51:17
shirts in your previous world when you
went into the office and that aren't being
00:08:51:17 - 00:08:56:03
shirts in your previous world when you
went into the office and that aren't being
00:08:56:03 - 00:08:57:03
shirts in your previous world when you
went into the office and that aren't being
00:08:57:03 - 00:08:58:05
used just much anymore.
00:08:58:05 - 00:09:03:19
So can you look at maybe layering those so
that you've got some sort of undershirt
00:09:03:19 - 00:09:07:00
underneath and you can wear it open so
that way you're wearing it more and then
00:09:07:00 - 00:09:09:08
you could wear it with a pair of leggings
over the top.
00:09:09:08 - 00:09:12:08
How can you get more?
00:09:12:08 - 00:09:15:22
out of those pieces that are just sitting
there.
00:09:15:22 - 00:09:23:01
And if you can't, then it's time to sit
down and reassess what is there.
00:09:23:01 - 00:09:28:16
Because every time you open that wardrobe
and you see those pieces in there, your
00:09:28:16 - 00:09:32:09
brain is probably going through, it's such
a waste.
00:09:32:09 - 00:09:34:04
I used to love wearing these pieces.
00:09:34:04 - 00:09:35:14
I don't use them anymore.
00:09:35:14 - 00:09:39:17
So what can you do in order to either...
00:09:39:17 - 00:09:42:16
those pieces on to serve someone else
better so they can get more life out of
00:09:42:16 - 00:09:46:23
those pieces on to serve someone else
better so they can get more life out of
00:09:46:23 - 00:09:53:14
them and so then perhaps you can look at
investing in adjusting to your new
00:09:53:14 - 00:09:54:18
lifestyle.
00:09:54:18 - 00:09:59:09
I can't tell you the number of clients
that I've worked with where they've had
00:09:59:09 - 00:10:05:07
this corner of their wardrobe whether
that's office pieces or whether that's
00:10:05:07 - 00:10:07:18
casual and they're now starting to go in
the office more.
00:10:07:18 - 00:10:10:02
that it's that same element.
00:10:10:02 - 00:10:16:13
And it's so important to be able to
consider what does your lifestyle look
00:10:16:13 - 00:10:17:22
like today?
00:10:17:22 - 00:10:20:02
And how can you maximise?
00:10:20:02 - 00:10:26:14
Because without you realising it, it's
actually impacting how you feel about
00:10:26:14 - 00:10:27:15
yourself.
00:10:27:15 - 00:10:33:02
And how you feel about the pieces in your
wardrobe, whether you're thinking, it's
00:10:33:02 - 00:10:35:09
such a waste of money that these are
there.
00:10:35:14 - 00:10:36:21
It's making me harder.
00:10:36:21 - 00:10:39:10
It's making it harder for me to get
dressed in the morning.
00:10:39:10 - 00:10:43:14
And that's why I rotate those same pieces
over and over again.
00:10:43:14 - 00:10:48:09
You've got a real opportunity to, you
know, change and consider how can you do
00:10:48:09 - 00:10:51:06
You've got a real opportunity to, you
know, change and consider how can you do
00:10:51:06 - 00:10:53:01
things differently?
00:10:53:01 - 00:11:01:20
Now, if you are thinking, my goodness,
this is me and I need to put on my to -do
00:11:01:20 - 00:11:04:14
list to actually change things up.
00:11:04:14 - 00:11:12:22
little bit, well I invite you to my free
masterclass and so that is being held this
00:11:12:22 - 00:11:15:09

need to be aware of to get more out of
your existing wardrobe.
00:11:24:18 - 00:11:28:08
without having to max out your time or
budget.
00:11:28:08 - 00:11:28:14

budget.

I'd love to see you live because I do have
a very special gift for those of you who,
00:11:47:21 - 00:11:49:18
you know, take the time out and tune in

00:11:49:18 - 00:11:52:02
you know, take the time out and tune in
live and that will be a strategic shopping
00:11:52:02 - 00:11:53:03
checklist.
00:11:53:03 - 00:11:57:21
