00:00:00:00 - 00:00:04:23
Speaker 1
Welcome to another episode of the Stall and Strategy podcast.
00:00:04:23 - 00:00:11:22
Speaker 1
We are coming into the final few episodes for 2024, but that doesn't mean you can't binge,
00:00:11:22 - 00:00:16:26
Speaker 1
a couple of the great episodes that we've done. I'm actually coming into,
00:00:16:26 - 00:00:27:23
Speaker 1
this is episode 49, and so next week's episode will be episode 50. So going out with a little bit of bang for 2024.
00:00:27:26 - 00:00:33:27
Speaker 1
If you asked me around 12 months ago when I said I wanted to kick off this podcast,
00:00:33:27 - 00:00:40:05
Speaker 1
you know, would I've got to or even thought that I would have 50 episodes,
00:00:40:05 - 00:00:44:17
Speaker 1
coming up. It's crazy to, to think of so,
00:00:44:17 - 00:00:51:21
Speaker 1
you'll hear more next week, but really wanted to again, thank you for tuning in every week.
00:00:51:21 - 00:00:57:04
Speaker 1
To listen to me and my thoughts on building a personal brand and style,
00:00:57:04 - 00:00:59:24
Speaker 1
something and a topic that I'm super passionate,
00:00:59:24 - 00:01:11:09
Speaker 1
about. So I'm hoping you're getting a lot of value throughout that. So I'm going to get into the topic today. But before I do, I just let you know I recorded this,
00:01:11:09 - 00:01:13:18
Speaker 1
originally a couple of weeks ago.
00:01:13:18 - 00:01:14:14
Speaker 1
And,
00:01:14:14 - 00:01:21:03
Speaker 1
as we were editing the recording, what became evident was the video worked, but,
00:01:21:03 - 00:01:23:23
Speaker 1
the voice or the audio,
00:01:23:23 - 00:01:39:13
Speaker 1
didn't. So this is the second time I'm going to record this episode. So I'm hoping that it's going to be even better than what I thought the first one was. So tuning. Grab your coffee, go for a walk, whatever it might be, and I hope that you,
00:01:39:13 - 00:01:43:01
Speaker 1
get as much value out of this as I am intending to give you.
00:01:43:24 - 00:01:46:10
Speaker 1
So today I'm talking about,
00:01:46:10 - 00:01:50:06
Speaker 1
you know, we're coming up to this summer break time here,
00:01:50:06 - 00:02:24:23
Speaker 1
in Australia and, you know, that's a time for giving. It's a time for family. It's time for that, you know, packing the diet, relaxing a little bit, eating a bit naughty. But most of all, spending time with friends and family and a lot of time as a busy professional, you will start to maybe pick out a book that you haven't read or you intended to read, or perhaps you will sit down and start to really reflect on the year that was, especially as you come into the new year and start thinking about
00:02:24:23 - 00:02:25:17
Speaker 1
what are you, some of your
00:02:25:17 - 00:02:27:00
Speaker 1
goals and,
00:02:27:00 - 00:02:28:27
Speaker 1
what are some of the focus points
00:02:28:27 - 00:02:33:01
Speaker 1
for you? So what I want to really,
00:02:33:01 - 00:02:56:12
Speaker 1
cover off on he is thinking about your personal brand over this break while you're taking your your sort of time out piece. Because I know for some of you, sometimes you get so busy doing the due to do the emails at work, the meetings, everything else that's happening that you're not actually taking an opportunity to have a strategic
00:02:56:12 - 00:03:02:25
Speaker 1
look at, well, what does my personal brand actually look like today and is it where I want to go?
00:03:03:02 - 00:03:39:05
Speaker 1
So I'm really thinking about these as the three Rs. And, you know, like a little bit of an acronym. So this is reflect refine and recharge. So like I said, summer is really that time of vacations and relaxing and holidays. But it is that golden time to reflect and pause. And I want you to be really thinking about, are you showing up as that professional that you aspire to be and is your personal brand really working as hard for you as it should be?
00:03:39:07 - 00:03:55:28
Speaker 1
So I'm going to guide you through three key actionable steps to really refine your personal brand. Start to set some intentional goals around it. And I can hear you already going all goals, but it's so important and then,
00:03:55:28 - 00:04:05:19
Speaker 1
make some most of, you know, summer and that damn time for your professional and personal growth. And,
00:04:05:19 - 00:04:09:14
Speaker 1
really, by the end of this, I want you to be in a position where
00:04:09:14 - 00:04:11:25
Speaker 1
got a clear direction around your personal brand.
00:04:11:25 - 00:04:12:19
Speaker 1
And,
00:04:12:19 - 00:04:21:29
Speaker 1
Your personal brand is that impression you leave on people, and it can really help perceive your expertise and,
00:04:21:29 - 00:04:28:16
Speaker 1
leadership overall. And remembering that I'm not just talking to career professionals.
00:04:28:16 - 00:04:30:06
Speaker 1
You know, I am talking to,
00:04:30:06 - 00:04:34:14
Speaker 1
women in business, people in business as well, who are generating their own,
00:04:34:14 - 00:04:41:28
Speaker 1
personal brand online as well. But I really want you to put the hat on. And regardless of what,
00:04:41:28 - 00:04:53:04
Speaker 1
area of professional business growth, career growth you're sitting in, this will apply to you. So let's talk about the first step.
00:04:53:06 - 00:05:02:20
Speaker 1
So what I want you to think about is something that I call auditing your personal brand. And I'm going to start off with
00:05:02:20 - 00:05:12:03
Speaker 1
looking at your digital presence. So if you're a career person, don't tune out yet. Right. Because I think you're going to be able to pick out,
00:05:12:03 - 00:05:22:29
Speaker 1
some important points around this. So when I talk about a digital presence audit, I want you to I'm going to primarily really dive into,
00:05:22:29 - 00:05:25:12
Speaker 1
LinkedIn because it's holistic across both,
00:05:25:12 - 00:05:30:22
Speaker 1
you know, whether you're running your own business or potentially, you know, if you're in a career as well.
00:05:30:24 - 00:05:32:16
Speaker 1
And so the question is,
00:05:32:16 - 00:05:42:23
Speaker 1
when was the last time you really sat down and had a look at your digital footprint? You know, when was the last time you actually googled your own name?
00:05:42:23 - 00:05:51:02
Speaker 1
So maybe spend a little bit of time doing that. You might not have any digital presence, but many of us do without even realizing it.
00:05:51:04 - 00:06:15:17
Speaker 1
And so if that digital presence is there is it really showing what you want it to show? And so the reason why I'm leaning into the LinkedIn side of things is because I want you to have a look at your profile, because actually, a lot of the posts, the content, your details around LinkedIn has become,
00:06:15:17 - 00:06:18:11
Speaker 1
quite connected to Google searches.
00:06:18:11 - 00:06:20:03
Speaker 1
So it's got a high,
00:06:20:03 - 00:06:21:17
Speaker 1
ranking really on the,
00:06:21:17 - 00:06:36:00
Speaker 1
Google search. So you'll notice that if you do have details on LinkedIn, like, like if you Google your name and you have one of those profiles, it's going to pop up the number one. So that's why I'm saying let let's focus a little bit of time on that.
00:06:36:02 - 00:06:41:18
Speaker 1
So a couple of quick tips around these. So the first thing is does your
00:06:41:18 - 00:07:01:11
Speaker 1
LinkedIn profile actually reflect your current goals and career goals and accomplishments, or is it something that's a little bit dusty and you might need to do a bit of a refresh on there? So a couple of things to look at is number one for me is that profile picture
00:07:01:11 - 00:07:03:19
Speaker 1
is it a nice close profile picture.
00:07:03:19 - 00:07:04:19
Speaker 1
Can we actually even
00:07:04:19 - 00:07:06:21
Speaker 1
see your face in it.
00:07:06:21 - 00:07:20:22
Speaker 1
So if you can and it's a full length picture or perhaps it's one from a few years ago, I want you to look at. You know what? It's probably time to refresh this. I know I've had many instances where I've gone and looked up,
00:07:20:25 - 00:07:24:16
Speaker 1
someone that I'm going to meet with face to face or even on a zoom.
00:07:24:19 - 00:07:33:22
Speaker 1
And when they've come, what's actually happened is I've looked in, gone. Oh, wow. Okay. The photo looks really different and it's even happened to me. You know,
00:07:33:22 - 00:07:44:10
Speaker 1
I've had really long hair and then I've had short hair as well, so even that shifted. People can get oh my gosh, I didn't recognize you because you look so different.
00:07:44:12 - 00:07:46:13
Speaker 1
So it's worthwhile taking some time,
00:07:46:13 - 00:07:48:26
Speaker 1
to have a look at that,
00:07:48:26 - 00:08:08:28
Speaker 1
image overall and make sure it's something that really reflects you and the brand that you want to showcase. Think about your colors, think about, you know, what outfit have you actually got on there? What's something that's going to really represent you in that? The second thing is really thinking about your bio, your achievements, things like that.
00:08:09:02 - 00:08:26:10
Speaker 1
Maybe you've done some extra study, maybe you've done some accreditations, that type of thing. Maybe your role has changed. Are those details actually up to date and is it what it's communicating? Think about the audience that might be looking at that for you. So I
00:08:26:10 - 00:08:30:14
Speaker 1
again, looking at the career professional side, it could be H.R. That's looking at that.
00:08:30:14 - 00:08:36:25
Speaker 1
It could be a potential employer that's looking around at that. So have a look and see.
00:08:36:25 - 00:08:40:13
Speaker 1
what you've got in there. Is it actually up to date.
00:08:40:13 - 00:08:50:13
Speaker 1
From a business perspective, you know, is your ideal client that you're trying to pitch to? Is the information in there really positioned and,
00:08:50:13 - 00:08:55:25
Speaker 1
does it reference what you know, that that ideal client might be looking at?
00:08:55:27 - 00:09:01:28
Speaker 1
And then of course there's a whole section there. There's two. There's one really about what your bio is.
00:09:01:28 - 00:09:15:21
Speaker 1
that first line that people go to when they see you, you know, does it actually say, you know, some people might have a title in there, some might have like a what is also known as an AI help statement, just to show a bit of brand, etc..
00:09:15:26 - 00:09:18:19
Speaker 1
There's a lot of really great real estate that,
00:09:18:19 - 00:09:19:15
Speaker 1
I'm going to call it,
00:09:19:15 - 00:09:27:03
Speaker 1
in that section. So is it being maximized because you are so much more than a title?
00:09:27:03 - 00:09:31:01
Speaker 1
also remember many years ago, you know, always feeling really,
00:09:31:01 - 00:09:35:00
Speaker 1
and this is back in the days when I worked in corporate feeling really blocked in.
00:09:35:04 - 00:09:48:09
Speaker 1
I had a title, but I was capable of so much more. But how do you actually get that out there and reflect what your capability is? Because sometimes that title doesn't do that. That profile gives you that opportunity,
00:09:48:09 - 00:09:51:02
Speaker 1
to do that. So lean into it.
00:09:51:02 - 00:09:59:22
Speaker 1
And then the last bit there is your about section. You know, sometimes people won't necessarily look at that unless they're really interested in what,
00:09:59:22 - 00:10:01:22
Speaker 1
finding out a little bit more about you.
00:10:01:22 - 00:10:09:10
Speaker 1
So make it personal. Give it share a little bit of who you are. You know what you enjoy. Make it entertaining to read.
00:10:09:10 - 00:10:18:12
Speaker 1
As well. So take the opportunity and do a quick audit on that. And I also do that with a lot of clients that I work with who are looking for that
00:10:18:12 - 00:10:21:12
Speaker 1
a listed personal brand side of things.
00:10:21:14 - 00:10:24:29
Speaker 1
You know, before we get into the style component, all that,
00:10:24:29 - 00:10:26:01
Speaker 1
the next,
00:10:26:01 - 00:10:28:19
Speaker 1
piece that I would do in terms of
00:10:28:19 - 00:10:33:26
Speaker 1
a bit of an audit of your personal brand is does your,
00:10:33:26 - 00:10:45:03
Speaker 1
appearance in the communication style that you're talking about, which I touched on a little bit before, actually represent what you are trying to project for your personal brand?
00:10:45:05 - 00:10:57:17
Speaker 1
You know, what do people say about you when you are not in the room, and does it actually align to what you want them to be saying about you? You know, they could be saying she's diligent worker.
00:10:57:17 - 00:11:05:00
Speaker 1
She delivers every time. These are all positives. But is it missing something that you've always really wanted them to say about you?
00:11:05:00 - 00:11:22:04
Speaker 1
So it's about spending a little bit of time to get clear around that, and then finally just going back to that digital presence. You know, don't forget, for many of you, you might have headshots on company pages. So, you know, have a look. Are they still,
00:11:22:04 - 00:11:25:02
Speaker 1
you know, up to date. Do they need a bit of a refresh?
00:11:25:07 - 00:11:33:06
Speaker 1
And are they actually describing you and your brand in a way that makes sense for the organization that you're in? And really
00:11:33:06 - 00:11:35:11
Speaker 1
the the value that you,
00:11:35:11 - 00:11:40:22
Speaker 1
provide across the board? And so that's what I recommend from a digital sort of
00:11:40:22 - 00:11:47:10
Speaker 1
presence side of things. Number two from a quick audit is actually spending time,
00:11:47:10 - 00:11:51:27
Speaker 1
for setting some personal brand and style goals for the rest of the year.
00:11:52:02 - 00:11:54:01
Speaker 1
Yes, I know this is,
00:11:54:01 - 00:12:03:16
Speaker 1
coming at you, you know, first week of December, but it's not too late to start to think about that and or even get ready for,
00:12:03:16 - 00:12:10:19
Speaker 1
2025. So I will be looking at holding a bit of a workshop around these and getting you,
00:12:10:19 - 00:12:14:01
Speaker 1
really in depth and putting down these details,
00:12:14:01 - 00:12:15:24
Speaker 1
early on in the new year.
00:12:15:25 - 00:12:20:08
Speaker 1
So please feel free to DM if this is something that you would be interested in,
00:12:20:08 - 00:12:22:13
Speaker 1
finding out more about. But
00:12:22:13 - 00:12:45:19
Speaker 1
this is about reflecting on the year that you've had so far. And what are three things maybe you're really proud of from a professional perspective? And what's one area you would like to improve on? You know, what's maybe some feedback that you've got around that year that could really help to start to inform some of the goals going forward.
00:12:45:21 - 00:12:53:13
Speaker 1
So when I'm thinking about personal brand goals, I want you to be thinking about things like, okay,
00:12:53:13 - 00:13:11:08
Speaker 1
you know, it might be that you want to enhance your visibility on LinkedIn as an example, especially if you're in a business. So what does that look like for you and what's the why? There's no point putting a whole bunch of goals on a page, because we've all been there where you've done that.
00:13:11:08 - 00:13:31:12
Speaker 1
And really, I'm not connected to these in any way. The why behind it becomes so critical because in the end, when maybe you don't feel like you're hitting them, then you need a bit of motivation around that. And the motivation is going to be is what is your why. And that's what's going to keep you going forward,
00:13:31:12 - 00:13:32:11
Speaker 1
around that,
00:13:32:11 - 00:13:39:21
Speaker 1
you know, it might be that, you know, you want to change roles in the new year or you want to get an expanded,
00:13:39:21 - 00:13:46:00
Speaker 1
position or be seen for a leadership opportunity or, a potential other role.
00:13:46:00 - 00:13:58:14
Speaker 1
You just want to be seen as different. And so what are the whatever that different is for you? You really need to sit down and define it. No one else can define that for you.
00:13:58:14 - 00:14:05:17
Speaker 1
because it's it's innate in you, you have to know where do you want to go on that? And, you know, I do help,
00:14:05:17 - 00:14:11:27
Speaker 1
and many clients and coach them around pulling that out to help to get to that end,
00:14:11:27 - 00:14:14:10
Speaker 1
vision with a lot more clarity.
00:14:14:10 - 00:14:30:24
Speaker 1
And so when you're building out those goals, yes, you might have 1 or 2 or even three big holistic vision goals, but then you need to bring it down to that next level. And that's where that whole smart framework comes in. And I can hear many of you got,
00:14:30:24 - 00:14:36:18
Speaker 1
that smart framework. I have to do these, you know, at work perhaps, you know, and getting really granular.
00:14:36:18 - 00:14:41:18
Speaker 1
But remember, this is about you, you as the individual,
00:14:41:18 - 00:14:59:21
Speaker 1
you might be achieving great things in the workplace using goals like this, but we must never forget about us personally and what we are trying to drive through and what are our objectives and our goals for us because nobody's going to drive your career. Then you all,
00:14:59:21 - 00:15:02:22
Speaker 1
you know, drive your business, then you.
00:15:02:25 - 00:15:07:06
Speaker 1
And so I really want you to be able to spend that time and thinking about
00:15:07:06 - 00:15:21:24
Speaker 1
what would be the tangible activities or things that I really want to achieve, whether it's in the next quarter of the year, but around my personal brand. Because if you haven't sat down and created that vision and created,
00:15:21:24 - 00:15:29:02
Speaker 1
had the steps to get there, then it's always going to be this dream in the future, and you're going to pocket.
00:15:29:02 - 00:15:29:23
Speaker 1
And so,
00:15:29:23 - 00:15:34:05
Speaker 1
for me saying transformation, saying activations in people,
00:15:34:05 - 00:15:36:02
Speaker 1
just gives me the greatest joy,
00:15:36:02 - 00:15:41:06
Speaker 1
saying them, you know, shift through that phase. So really
00:15:41:06 - 00:15:50:12
Speaker 1
ensuring that you are breaking down those big goals into micro actions. So if you say, for example,
00:15:50:12 - 00:15:56:16
Speaker 1
posting on LinkedIn, you know, three times a week or, you know, talking about things that are happening,
00:15:56:16 - 00:16:01:04
Speaker 1
is one of my goals, then, you know, what are you going to start off with?
00:16:01:11 - 00:16:12:15
Speaker 1
If three is too much, maybe it's one. What's the one step you can take to whatever that goal might be? Okay. Number three,
00:16:12:15 - 00:16:12:25
Speaker 1
I
00:16:12:25 - 00:16:13:12
Speaker 1
ran my
00:16:13:12 - 00:16:24:16
Speaker 1
quick audit here is thinking about your networking opportunity. So I know some of you and myself included, when I think about networking,
00:16:24:16 - 00:16:26:20
Speaker 1
especially if you,
00:16:26:20 - 00:16:29:00
Speaker 1
or see yourself as a bit of an introvert.
00:16:29:00 - 00:16:29:16
Speaker 1
Extrovert.
00:16:29:16 - 00:16:29:28
Speaker 1
Yes.
00:16:29:28 - 00:16:34:15
Speaker 1
You enjoy connecting with people, but you also find it quite,
00:16:34:15 - 00:16:40:25
Speaker 1
draining by the end of it. Then networking is likely not one of your top priorities.
00:16:41:01 - 00:16:58:13
Speaker 1
So I really want you to be thinking about networking a little bit different. Like so thinking about it like I'm catching up with potential friends. I'm catching up with getting to know people more right out of genuine curiosity.
00:16:58:15 - 00:17:02:20
Speaker 1
And the reason why I say this is part of your,
00:17:02:20 - 00:17:12:01
Speaker 1
personal brand. Because we know more than anything, whether you're a business from a referral perspective or whether you are,
00:17:12:01 - 00:17:20:18
Speaker 1
looking at your career, some of the biggest opportunities can come from your broader network. And so using,
00:17:20:18 - 00:17:24:15
Speaker 1
you know, the summer time to connect with people,
00:17:24:15 - 00:17:26:26
Speaker 1
that maybe you haven't connected with in a while.
00:17:26:26 - 00:17:28:09
Speaker 1
So it could be,
00:17:28:09 - 00:17:31:21
Speaker 1
you've got a lot of Christmas parties that might be happening.
00:17:31:21 - 00:17:44:04
Speaker 1
There might be coffee catch ups at this time. You know, I want to catch up before the end of the year, that type of thing. Instead of potentially saying no because you're too busy taking a look at it and go, okay, where can I fit in 30 minutes?
00:17:44:09 - 00:17:52:17
Speaker 1
Where could I fit in a 30 minutes face to face? A where could I fit something in, perhaps in zoom? Or again, thinking about that January time frame,
00:17:52:17 - 00:17:57:14
Speaker 1
to where can I connect and put some pieces in there as well?
00:17:57:14 - 00:18:01:23
Speaker 1
And then the second piece around networking is really networking with,
00:18:01:23 - 00:18:05:24
Speaker 1
a little bit more intention that you had before.
00:18:05:24 - 00:18:21:14
Speaker 1
And thinking about, you know, what what what is it in my network that I'm missing today, what genuine relationships do I need to start to focus on and build on? And how do I actually go out in building,
00:18:21:14 - 00:18:32:12
Speaker 1
some of those connections around helping your personal brand and just building out some of those gaps that you might have identified in your goals?
00:18:32:15 - 00:18:46:16
Speaker 1
And then finally, in terms of looking at those three quick tips around, you know, taking some steps to really reflect and refine and,
00:18:46:16 - 00:18:50:17
Speaker 1
recharge your personal brand,
00:18:50:17 - 00:18:58:00
Speaker 1
over the summer time, you know, have to think about which one of these is most important for you to take a look at.
00:18:58:00 - 00:19:00:07
Speaker 1
Which one of these will be,
00:19:00:07 - 00:19:03:16
Speaker 1
really the most important
00:19:03:16 - 00:19:07:04
Speaker 1
and what's doable in the time frame that you've got.
00:19:07:06 - 00:19:22:18
Speaker 1
So I want you to pick at least one, you know, whether it's auditing your LinkedIn, setting a brand goal, planning to attend something, whether this year or next. Just pick one. And if you need some accountability on that, drop medium. And let me,
00:19:22:18 - 00:19:27:00
Speaker 1
know. I'd love to hear about your summer brand,
00:19:27:00 - 00:19:29:15
Speaker 1
goals. And, you know, tag me on
00:19:29:15 - 00:19:31:02
Speaker 1
LinkedIn or Instagram.
00:19:31:02 - 00:19:33:28
Speaker 1
That's predominantly where I'm hanging out,
00:19:33:28 - 00:19:39:12
Speaker 1
the most. But if you need a little bit more support around this,
00:19:39:12 - 00:19:40:13
Speaker 1
I've got a download,
00:19:40:13 - 00:19:49:01
Speaker 1
a free guide that I've put together around building your personal brand and some Kickstarter steps around that. And I will have in the show notes,
00:19:49:01 - 00:19:54:01
Speaker 1
details around how you can grab your copy of that.
00:19:54:04 - 00:19:57:18
Speaker 1
So take some time. Enjoy.
00:19:57:18 - 00:20:03:11
Speaker 1
The summer break and recharge, refine and reflect on your personal,
00:20:03:11 - 00:20:12:21
Speaker 1
brand. And then next week, I'm wrapping up 50 episodes of the Style and Strategy podcast. I can't wait,
00:20:12:21 - 00:20:16:08
Speaker 1
to share that episode with you. Take care.
